The highlights of our 25th birthday

Coming academic year is packed full of activities that will be organized in honor of our 30th birthday. The chance is pretty big that you have not experienced the previous (25th) anniversary. What awaits you? What score had the previous anniversary on the scale of cool to extremely cool? Time for a look back to the academic year 2011-2012 and our 25th birthday; High on silver!

1. The Committee
We start with the heroes who have worked hard for it to facilitate all the activities; the committee! It was a group with a lot of experience and that was noticeable. Especially the promotion material was of high quality. Even paint experts wouldn't achieve this kind of perfection! We would like to show you this, but this material is heavily secured and hidden in our archives (read: lost) so you'll just have to take our word for it. There were members who were jealous on the paint skills of the committee, which resulted in a few attempts to reach the same level of quality. We'll give you an example:

2. The 25-beers-drink
After a delicious barbecue on the 'klokkenplas' a drink took place in Asterion. With 25 different specialty beers. The pub board had 600 bottles of specialty beer, and more than 300 were consumed in no time. A few members tasted too much beer, so that they had to be sent home. This drink was easy to remember for a long time in Asterion; all the unsold beers had to be tasted on next pub evenings!

3. Sylvester Party

With 'oliebollen', prosecco and fireworks, we started the new year together. During this evening, the members discovered prosecco is the best when you drink it directly out of the bottle, which resulted in too much empty bottles and drunk people. Ever since this night, new year's Eve is being celebrated in Asterion every year

4. The Belgian beers and abbeys tour
In the spring of 2012, we traveled under the guidance of P.C.S.A. Incognito to Belgium. We cycled along different abbeys to update our knowledge of the world behind beer. After interesting tours and tastings, the tents were set up. In the evening, in the campsite pub, one of the participants suggested to drink beer from an old-fashioned chamber pot. The owner didn't want to fill up the chamber pot with beer, but instead he had a gigantic glass of beer (so big it could hold up to thirteen beers) which had to be drunk by the participant. He managed this and as a reward he received the glass (which was filled again) as a souvenir to take home!

5. The yearbook

It's intended that the yearbook is being handed out on our birthday, April 2nd, but most of the time this seems to be impossible because of delays. Content is submitted too late, the proof is delayed or the deadline is too soon for another reason. During the year of our 25th birthday we succeeded to be in time for the first in a long time! The yearbook had the theme 'rhapsody' and looked very well. Do you want to discover the history of AEGEE-Enschede? We recommend you to read this beautiful yearbook, in which this is being highlighted!

6. Anniversary trip
In March 2012, a large group of AEGEE member travelled to Hamburg for a weekend. The Lustrum Committee had already explored the city, so that they as could guide the participants the best way possible during this weekend. Of course we visited the Reeperbahn and we went to the U-Boot museum. And of course we couldn't have visited Germany without eating at a real Pakistani restaurant. During this dinner many participants had underestimated the hot sauce, which was a fun thing to watch for the others. This dinner served as the right base for an evening 'party machen'!

7. Spring Agora Enschede
As part of a large European student network, we are not only active in Enschede. We travel throughout Europe to join the other locals and party, socialize and discuss current topics. We also meet twice a year with 800 students during the so-called Agora. In 2012 the Agora took place in Enschede place and the university was flooded with European students in the first week of May. We'll post another list about this Agora, because otherwise this list would be too long!

8. Anniversary prom
Usually, our prom takes place in or around Enschede, but especially for the 25th birthday, buses took us to Villa Sonsbeek in Arnhem. With a luxurious 3-course dinner and a chic location for the prom, it was a unique evening. The bus trip back is also something we all remember; some members drank too much cocktails and got sick on the way back. Unfortunately the television in the bus was one of the victims of this sickness.

9. Christmas dinner
Yearclub Boecoup had the honor to organize the Christmas dinner during the anniversary year. This was an activity not every participant is able to remember. In the announcement of this activity, yearclub Boecoup already added a disclaimer saying that the yearclub was not responsible for any injury that was caused by drinking too much alcohol. Each course had its own matching wine and that was a challenge with seven homecooked courses. After the dinner, there Boecoup gave out free beer, but some members of the yearclub couldn't remember this generosity the next day.

10. Pub marathon
The anniversary year ended with the closing party and a pub marathon. The participants of the pub marathon had to stay in Asterion for 25 hours (including the party). As a reward for achieving this challenge the participants could be immortalized in the pub by getting their name on a barstool (this barstool unfortunately did not survive for long). Twenty tough members started the challenge, but not everyone has gotten to the finish. The members who did make it to the finish kept themselves awake by doing table tennis, pub hockey and wii'ing. After the 25 hours, they were rewarded with a medal en did go home fast to sleep for a long time.
